RATTLEBACK "Reversing Direction" Spinning Top
A Rattleback "reversing rotation" spinning top is a semi-ellipsoidal spinning top that will spin on its axis in a preferred direction. If spun in the opposite direction, it becomes unstable, "rattles" to a stop and reverses its rotation in the preferred direction.
Archaeologists exploring Celtic and ancient Egyptian sites in the 19th century found objects that exhibited the reverse motion.
