Olive wood spinning top, probably by Bezalel

The spinning top in the picture is a nostalgic vintage Judaica item, characteristic of workshops and art schools in Jerusalem from the early 20th century to the middle of the century (such as the Bezalel olive wood industry or local family workshops). These hand-engraved and illustrated spinning tops, made of local olive wood, were often produced as souvenirs for tourists and for the holidays of Tishrei and Hanukkah. The spinning top features the illustrated outlines of the walls of Jerusalem and the Old City, alongside the handmade inscription "JERUSALEM" in English. Most of the artists and engravers who created these spinning tops in the small workshops remain unknown, but today items of this type are highly sought after among Judaica collectors, and sometimes even appear in auction catalogs of rare items from the Land of Israel.
