In the 1940s, Joseph Merdinger, Wilhelm Kerner and Michael Steinmetz studied silversmithing together in their city of Czernowitz in Romania. After World War II, the three of them immigrated to Israel and founded "HaTzorfim" in 1952, first as a workshop in the kitchen of one of the partners and later in a workshop in Tel Aviv.
In 1983, the Merdinger family purchased their partners' share in "HaTzorfim", and to this day they own the company. Today, the company is led by artist and designer Yaakov Merdinger, Joseph's son. The company has thirteen stores nationwide, a production workshop and a design and development house, and employs over two hundred goldsmiths. The factory in Kfar Daniel is located on the remains of the Palestinian village of Daniel.
