The late Ori Levi, eldest son of Ravit Shani Levi and Shaul Levi. He was born on June 6, 2004 and died at the age of two (September 15, 2006), from a terminal genetic disease. Ori loved playing with spinning tops, and his mother Ravit decided to turn the spinning tops he loved so much into a light-spreading project, by distributing the spinning tops that Ori loved so much to children in hospitals and boarding schools across the country, with the help of volunteers. Over the years, it has become a tradition that brings joy to many children across the country.
The social project was established in 2016 by the Ori Association, in memory of Ori Levi, who died at the age of two years and three months, from a rare genetic syndrome (Leigh syndrome). The organization was founded by Ori's family and has been operating since 2006 with the goal of raising awareness of mitochondrial (genetic) diseases through research and support for families. Every year at Hanukkah, Ravit comes out with a set of spinning tops, the sale of which is a donation to research into rare diseases.
