Self-Balancing Finger Spinner – Halloween Edition.
Description
This is my take on Halloween this year. I love designing fun and unique toys, and I wanted to create a Halloween-themed desk decor item that also doubles as a toy. The toy itself (similar to the popular “balancing bird” designs) is able to balance on the stand indefinitely. As for the design – I really liked the idea of witches flying around my finger… scary, right?
Once you learn how to spin it on your finger, you’ll find that it can spin for a surprisingly long time!
Unlike a regular spinner, the center of gravity is below the fulcrum. When the spinner starts to tip to one side, gravity pulls the center of gravity back below the point of contact; this helps the spinner right itself and stay balanced.
This feature makes balancing on your fingertip much easier than a regular spinner. You can also use the included stand to spin the toy on a table.
The files include AMS (Automatic Material Change System) and non-AMS versions.
Tips:
• Use multiple layers of walls for the spinner base. It is very important that the part is made of solid, dense plastic! This is what causes the center of mass to be lower than the point of contact.
• Infill: 0% for the handle.
• Use the Arachne Slicing technique: Helps with handling small parts.
Multiple layers of walls combined with an empty interior space help to concentrate the weight outward, which improves spinning performance.
Assembly
1. Glue the hex connector into the spinner handle.
2. Glue the other end of the connector into the main body of the spinner.
3. Tighten the pieces together tightly, and make sure they are aligned as precisely as possible!
If you have difficulty inserting the connector into the top, check the print profile called "connector" - it contains hex pins in various sizes.
How to use
Place the top on the stand and hold the stand in place with one hand. With the other hand, turn the handle in a strong motion.
It may take a few tries to "get the hang of it", but once the top balances, it will naturally correct slight inclinations and continue to spin. Enjoy, I hope you like it!!!
