Julian Ashkenazy's Spinning Wheel Julian Ashkenazy was born in 1951 in Bombay, India. (1970) He immigrated to Israel and joined Kibbutz Hatzerim as a member. He studied the art of wood engraving with Eli Abu-Hatzira in Jerusalem and also attended an engraving workshop in England.
He founded the wood engraving workshop at Kibbutz Hatzerim in 2003. The initiative stemmed from the desire to engage in the field and the support of friends and family on the kibbutz.
His works have been exposed and displayed in exhibitions at the Art Gallery in Gan Shmuel, at the “Purple Gate” Gallery in Ein Hod, at the “Lali” Studio in the Artists’ Quarter in Arad, at the Castra Center in Haifa, at “WOOD ART” in Herzliya Pituach, at the “Artists’ House in the Negev” in Beersheba.
Today he produces pens, decorative objects, serving and hospitality utensils, spinning tops, and more. What all products have in common is the meticulous work and the use of various types of trees that grow in the Negev, including acacia, Indian rosewood, jojoba, olive, yanbot, and more.
