Humming top bamboo spinning top from Indonesia, probably purchased in Thailand. The spinning top is called Gasingan or Javanese (Indonesian for spinning top) Another name is Panggalan which means 'tool to break others' after the name of the game they play. It is believed that this spinning top developed in areas with bamboo canes and according to stories from Papua New Guinea, sorcerers would spin these spinning tops to make a humming sound, claiming that the humming was the voice of God and used it for ceremonies of adolescent children turning from children to boys.
